Open Thread Update: Fave Quotes About Aging

Wow, I thought I was feisty!

Our readers responded to our call for favorite quotes about aging (original column below) with fun…

“I’ll never be done turning my wild oats into shredded wheat!”

-Kathy B.

…and with wit…

“Studies have shown that people who have the most birthdays live the longest.”

-Sue O’D

A few had a good perspective on grey hair.  Here’s my favorite so far…

“I don’t have gray hair…I have wisdom highlights.”

-Judy G.

You GO, girl!

Readers Bella and Lisa offer extensive commentary worth checking out in the comments below.

Personally I like Rose’s attitude.

“…Life is good and I”m HAPPY to be here.”

That’s what I call aging with attitude!

We’ll leave this column up for a while so folks can enjoy quotes and maybe start thinking of their own.  We’ll bring back this column with some other quotes at a future date, so be on the lookout.

Original Column posted 12/5:

Aging is a journey everyone will face (if they’re lucky!), yet society has so many indications that it’s something to avoid looking at, or even to dread.

Well, screw that.

Here’s a list of just some of my favorite quotes about aging, from people who know what’s up.

  • “The longer I live the more beautiful life becomes.”  ~ Frank Lloyd Wright
  • “Count your age by friends, not years.  Count your life by smiles, not tears.  ~John Lennon
  • “You don’t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing.” ~George Bernard Shaw
  • “Oh, the worst of all tragedies is not to die young, but to live until I am seventy-five and yet not ever truly to have lived.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
  • “Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.” ~Franz Kafka
  • “Getting old is like climbing a mountain; you get a little out of breath, but the view is much better!”  ~Ingrid Bergman
