Transportation Discounts
Airlines: Air Canada/Westjet no senior discounts but some American airlines do.
Amtrak: Everyday: 15% discount on adult rail fare with some exclusions. Ages 62+.
Budget: Save up to 25 percent off of the lowest discountable car or truck rental rate. Must be a CARP member. You will get free enrollment into their Budget Fastbreak service and receive Air Miles.
Hertz: Offers discounted rates through the 50 Plus Car Rental Program.
Via Rail: offers 10% off to anyone 60+.
TTC: Students and people 65+ both pay the same reduced fare.
Greyhound: offers 20% savings. They may be the only company in Canada which offers the discount beginning at age 62.
British Columbia: All public transportation system: offer a discount to seniors 65+.
Calgary Transit: offers a discounted annual pass if you’re 65+. It’s a pretty good deal, but there are some conditions.
Winnipeg Transit: offers a senior’s fare if you’re 65+. You must show ID.
Ottawa Transit: Seniors ride free on Wednesday in. A senior’s discount is also available.
Halifax: seniors ride free on Tuesdays. (10 am – 3:30 and after 6 pm.)
St John’s: Metrobus offers a discounted monthly pass to seniors 65+.
BC Residents: 65+ can ride the ferries for 50% off Monday through Thursday, except on holidays. The discount is smaller on Inside Passage, Haida Gwaii and Discovery Coast Connector routes.
Banks
Scotiabank: offers seniors a free basic account, and other discounts.
TD: offers a rebate of up to 25% on monthly chequing fees for people 60 and over.
National Bank: offers a $3.95 account for people over 60.
RBC: offers rebates to people 65 and over.
CIBC: has a 60 Plus Advantage program.
BMO: offers discounts to people 60+.
Hotels
Best Western: If you are age 55 years-old or more, you can receive 10 percent off or more. You may also receive early check-ins, late check-outs, and free room upgrades. Simply make a hotel reservation and show proof of age upon check-in.
Sandman Hotels: Sign up for 55Plus Program for discounts at all locations.
Wyndham Hotels: (Includes: Baymont, Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Hawthorn Suites, Microtel and Travelodge, Wingate by Wyndham) : 10% off ages 50 and over.
Choice Hotels: (Includes: Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, MainStay Suites, Suburban, Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn) A 10 percent discount when you book in advance. Ages 60 and over.
Marriott: Save 15 percent or more off rates. Ages 62 and over.
DoubleTree: Ages 65+ are eligible for the senior rate. Can even use it to book a second room for family.
Holiday Inn Express: Get a discount at participating locations. Ages 62+.
Hyatt: Save up to 50% at participating hotels. Age not specified.
Days Inn: Guests 60 years and older are invited to enjoy special savings off our Best Available Rate when they stay at participating Days Inn hotels. From breakfast to bedtime and all the moments in between, you’re always welcome at Days Inn.
Hilton Hotels: (also includes Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Harrison Conference Centers, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn, Red Lion) Another paid membership plan for folks over 60, they guarantee low rates, and 20% off meals at participating restaurants.
Howard Johnson Hotels: everyone over 55 is entitled to a 10% discount.
Travelodge Hotels (includes Thriftlodge): 50+ can receive a 10% discount off the regular room rate. Additionally, seniors can also receive in-room coffee, no long distance access charges and free weekday lobby newspapers.
Auto Insurance
In Canada Insurers must offer a premium discount to retirees aged 65 and over and those younger, if they are receiving a pension such as Canada or Quebec pension.

Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) membership – CARP is an exclusive association for Canadians age 50 and above. With an annual fee of $19.95, CARP
members gain access to great benefits which includes discounts in many different stores, hotels, and etc. Discounts requiring CARP membership will be indicated down
below (source).
Always ask: Seniors discounts are not always openly advertised. It is recommended that you ask about whether or not the store offers the discount every time you make a purchase.

Giant Tiger. Giant Tiger holds monthly Senior Discount days for customers age 60 and above.. Discount dates and rates varies by store.
Pet Valu: Pet Valu offers a 10% discount on regular-priced items to age-eligible seniors every last Thursday of the month.
Salvation Army Thrift Stores: Salvation Army Thrift Stores offer a 10% senior’s discount on all items. Senior’s discounts are available every day but cannot be combined with other offers.

Shoppers Drug Mart: Shoppers Drug Mart offers a 20% discount to all seniors age 65 and older with a personal Shoppers Optimum card. This special discount is available every last Thursday of the month.
Transportation Discounts for Canadian Seniors

Avis: CARP members are eligible to claim a 25% discount on Avis base rates. Simply use Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number C744400.
Budget: Budget offers CARP members up to 25% off Budget base rates for vehicle rental. Available in participating US and Canada locations only.

Via Rail: Via Rail offers a 10% senior’s discount on the Economy Plus fare and on regular Sleeper Plus and Touring fares.
62 and older
Greyhound: Greyhound offers a 5% discount on passenger fares to seniors aged 62 and above with valid photo identification as proof of age.
65 and older
British Columbia Transportation System: The whole public transportation system in British Columbia offers discounted fare rates and a bus pass program to seniors 65+. A valid B.C. CareCard or BC Services Card must be shown to the driver when you pay.
Calgary Transit: Seniors age 65+ are eligible to apply for Calgary Transit’s Regular Senior Yearly Pass and Low Income Seniors Yearly Pass.
Go Transit: For passengers age 65 and above, a single-ride fare is half the adult single-ride fare.
Toronto Transit Commission: TTC offers discounted fares and passes for seniors 65+.
Ottawa Transit: Ottawa Transit offers free rides for seniors every Wednesday. Discounted monthly pass and lower cash and PRESTO e-purse fares also available.
St. John’s Metrobus: St. John’s Metrobus offers discounted rates on their 10-ride pass and monthly/30 day pass to seniors age 65 and over.
Winnipeg Transit: Winnipeg Transit offers discounted fare rates for seniors age 65 or older. A valid identification card must be shown to the operator when boarding.
Bank Discounts for Canadian Seniors
55 and older
BMO Bank of Montreal: Qualify for the Senior Plan by providing proof of age during registration in a BMO Bank of Montreal branch.
60 and older
National Bank: National Bank’s PERSPECTIVE benefit package for seniors over age 60 has recently been replaced with MODEST™. This chequing account requires a $4.95 fixed monthly fee ($5.00 discount). $3,000 minimum monthly balance is required to waive the monthly fee.
Scotiabank: All Scotiabank customers age 60 and older can enjoy free or lower monthly fees on Eligible Chequing Accounts like Scotia One™ Account, Basic Banking Account, and Basic Banking Plan. Monthly fees are also waved for Eligible Saving Accounts like U.S. Dollar Daily Interest Account and Euro Daily Interest Savings Account.
Toronto Dominion Bank: TD 60 Plus CheckingSM requires $0 monthly maintenance fee plus other extra features and benefits.

Royal Bank of Canada: RBC offers a Seniors Rebate on all personal banking accounts for eligible customers age 65 and over.
CIBC: CIBC’s Smart® for Seniors offers great benefits for all its bank customers who are over 65 years of age. Seniors can benefit from discounted or waived monthly fees on CIBC Smart™ Account, CIBC Premium Growth Account™, and CIBC US$ Personal Account. The bank also offers discounts on safety deposit boxes.
