The Academy Awards Of Better After 50s

When 6 friends decided to wear the same shirt they brought to our 15th annual outing in the mountains and took this picture, it turned out we captured way more than that.. it stopped our clock and imprinted a moment in the beyond.

We could call this our version of a red carpet moment because we travelled far to gather right here. We are standing on top of Arrowhead mountain in Vail Colorado at 10,000 feet and we know this is pretty damn special. We couldn’t all get together for the past 2 Covid years but here we are back in the game.

So what’s so unique about a gathering of friends who after clouds and snow got one perfect Blue Bird day with 6 inches of fresh glistening crystal white powder? What’s so unique about a snapshot of friends out on a mountain?

Well that’s just the point. Maybe nothing and maybe everything because we stopped and pinched ourselves because despite all the chaos in the world, weather drama and personal health issues, we were able to come together and pull this off.

Time standing still and racing ahead all at once is what reverberates in our eyes and skin. We are not young women but we are not past our Prime! We are in our 60’s and reflect a vitality that we know is precious and fleeting and unconsciously we hope we will always feel. Not one of us takes for granted that we are lucky to be physically able to show up and participate. We know when we look back at this picture next year and perhaps 10 years from now, we will hopefully remember how we felt in this moment, and how lucky we were to celebrate, pause and capture this memory.

We’ve all lived long enough to know there is way too much that can keep us from showing up and how it is always worth the effort. We also accept we will never be this young again.

We are women in uniform with an unintended message of girl power, sisterhood and celebration with a smidge of sass and never say quit attitude. And magically the matching uniform of a playful top that we each loved and bought on our own and decided to wear this day, bonded our BadAss sisterhood.

We may not look like we’re ready to walk the Hollywood Red Carpet… But we are indeed dressed for our own version.

Stopping the clock and celebrating this incredible age with 60 year old bodies intact enough to keep the show powering forward no matter the obstacles and — taking time out to celebrate and reminding each other of the good stuff and how lucky we are to be in the game is worthy of it’s own Oscar.
