I have often heard this quote from my friends and it has helped me overcome many of my fears. This quote may be familiar as it is the central theme of one my favorite holiday movies, “It’s a Wonderful Life!”
This classic movie about the power of giving is one of my favorites. It stars Jimmy Stewart. If you haven’t seen it, I will tell you a little backstory.
This is the story of a man who had it all, but lost it all due to losing his money for his bank.
He feels like he is failing everyone. After he wishes he never was born, an angel shows him what life would look like if he had never been born.
His guardian angel reminds him of all the friends he dearly loved… reminds him of the friends he made a difference in and the ones that made a difference in his life.
During the last scenes of the movie, George’s guardian angel, Clarence, leaves him a book as a gift. It is the book “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain. Inside the book his guardian angel had written: “Dear George: Remember no man is a failure who has friends…”
This quote reminds us to take time to spend with the people we love, to have our priorities straight, and to always remember the importance of relationships in life.
The point of this post is to encourage you to reach out to people and help them. There is power in making new friends and helping others.

6) Make the effort to learn their names, especially their ‘first names.’ When you speak to someone and you frequently say their name, this in turn, makes them feel special and important, which they are!

In today’s society as well as in past times, we often feel pressure to keep up with the Jones’s and to climb the corporate ladder and to buy material things in order to show others how successful you are.
But none of that means anything and your life is not complete unless you have friends and family who love you for who you are and not for what you have or for what you do for a living.
In the modern world, we are surrounded by people and we are not able to choose who we want to be friends with. We meet people every day and they make us smile or they make us feel bad, but we can never be sure.
When you meet new people, you have to decide whether you want to be friends with them or not. But if you are thinking that you will never be friends with anyone, you are wrong. You can make friends with everyone, you just need to change your approach.
I am sure that we all have some friends that are mean or rude or that we don’t really like or if you’re like me, I just feel some people just give off a ‘negative vibe.’ When you think about your friends, you may say that you don’t know why you are friends with them because they are not initially friendly. However, you should perhaps maintain an open mind as there is a lot of difference between a toxic person and a good person.
I am sure that you have met people that are nice and friendly and that you have also met people that may be a little standoffish. The same thing is true about your colleagues and your neighbors.
If you want to get along with people, you need to be friendly. If you are not friendly, then you cannot get along with anybody. So, you should be friendly and you need to be friends with everybody who is authentically a true friend.
Friendship is a 2-Way Street
People who are important in your life are the ones who know you the best and who truly care about you. They see your worth and value as a person and they support you no matter what. They help you when you need them and they stand by you when you stumble or fall.
I would be totally amiss if I didn’t bring up that friendship is truly a two-way street as well. It’s about giving and taking, about being honest and fair, about trying to understand what the other person is feeling and going through.
That’s why friendship is a two-way street. If you are not willing to give back to a friend, you can’t expect much in return.
So my advice to you is simple… give ‘more’ than expected. Really ‘listen’ to understand not ‘listen’ to just hear preparing for your response. Because just as friends are important to you, being a true authentic friend is even more important!
