It’s Spring In The North, Transition Style

Stretching for Seniors

Hey where are my peeps? You know who you are.Women of the North so jealous of the Southern Gals and their pretty Spring styles. I live in the North, well not the true North, just across the Border. AND we still have snow. Trying to create a fun Spring Transition Style with snow all around.

It’s hard you know, stores are filled with pretty Spring dresses and we really want to pack away the boots and the tights. m Sadly it is still minus temperatures some days and snow surrounds us. Now that snow looks pretty amazing in December for our Christmas style but in April, we are so over it. Transition Style takes on a whole new meaning in April when you can have a snow squall in the morning and sunny and warm in the afternoon.

What is Transition Style

Before I get into my actual look today lets discuss transition style shall we? What exactly is transition style? Many think it is taking a non season piece and making it work out of season. That works but so does mixing seasonal pieces.

Adding a non seasonal colour, like a white boot instead of black. Layering with a cardigan or blazer. Basically, transitional dressing refers to clothes that can seamlessly ‘transition’ you from winter into spring (or other seasons), without having to buy a whole new wardrobe.

The idea with transitional style is pretty simple. Buy a few new items or find a few in your existing wardrobe and mix them in with your winter wardrobe, adopt a few rules to styling them, edit out some strictly winter-only items and you’re set. My transition style is a few key dresses/tunics that are slightly more flowy, paired with a lighter boot and it seems to work.

I pack away the heavier sweaters, velvet and hardier fabrics. I tend to push the browns and deeper colours to the back and add in a few lighter tones/colours and maybe a few pastels.

H&M Chevron Dress

My Spring style for early April is taking a fun H&M Dress and making it weather worthy. What the heck is weather worthy, well add leggings and a tall boot in a non winter colour. This dress is perfect for Spring, a lighter chiffon like material makes it feel seasonally airy, but the colour and style are still suitable for transition style.

In the winter I will wear this dress with a tall black boot and a moto jacket for layering. Today it can stand on its own with a fun boot. Funny thing though, when I check out my winter post it doesn’t look much different than today, darn snow.

Transition Coats for Spring

In the North we cannot forget about outer wear, aka COATS. I have shared many a fun coat on the blog but lately Joe Fresh has been killing it. I picked up this beautiful Classic Rose coat last Fall. The colour worked for Fal and it is still working for a transition to Spring look.

Change up the scarf and gloves, wear a contrasting or matching boot and you have totally changed the look. It is heavy enough to keep the chill away, but light enough that I don’t feel like a bear in hibernation, I love the look with this dress, creates more of a blazer silhouette.
