How to Wear Combat Boots over 50

Combat boots sound so masculine but can actually be the opposite. I have a few pair and they are my favourite go-to style. One style is cream with a rhinestone trim and the other is leopard and they both are on repeat in my wardrobe. Today we will share how to wear combat boots over 50 and not feel silly.

Yes, you can wear them with jeans, you can wear them with dresses…heck, you can even style combat boots with skirts if you want. Here’s how.

What is a Combat Boot vs a Moto Boot

What qualifies as a Combat boot? Well usually a heavy, usually laced and close-fitting boot of hard leather extending above the ankle and having a sole and heel of hard rubber. Now what exactly is a Fashion Combat boot then?

There are a variety of modern styles, including traditional lace-ups in black and brown, as well as more bold colors like green and blue and sometimes even the softest of pastels. You can also find heeled options, platforms, and stylish boots for women that lace all the way up to the knees. Basically a combat style jazzed up.

Now, Motorcycle or motto boots, are loosely defined as traditional boots with heavier leather, sturdy heels, and sturdy soles,with a shaft height that extends up and over the ankle – a minimum height would be a shaft of about 5-inches or so. Basically a combat boot that pulls on without laces.

Both are fun to accessorize with a non traditional outfit, like a dress or skirt.

How to Style a Combat Boot

The options are limitless. A fun fashion Combat boot can go with everything in your wardrobe. Today I am going to focus on 5 main looks; Jeans, dress or casual pants, dresses, skirts and leggings. Each creates a fun fashion look that is totally on trend this Fall.

Over 40 or 50 and worried about styling combat boots? Never fear if you rocked a Doc Marten in your day just stick with it. And if you never owned Doc Marten’s, well it’s never too late to start is my motto.

New to the game, purchase a pair that isn’t too over the top but has just enough kick to be fun. Remember to style them in a more modern way. Play with the contrast of tough versus feminine just enough to make it a bit edgy.

Let’s look at how I have styled my Combat boots in my over 50 era shall we.

Combat Boots with Jeans

Combat boots can be worn several ways with jeans. At the beginning of the post I showed off a fun dark wash skinny denim, paired with a fun cardigan. They also work well with a wide or flared leg and a casual shirt.

Here I paired my blue combat boots with a heeled lug sole with a pair of wide leg denim from H&M. I also added that famous Paris Sweatshirt and created a perfect weekend look.

How to Style A Dress with Combat Boots

Dresses can work really well with combat boots. Styling a chambray denim dress from Joe Fresh with lug sole Combats today. Adding a combat boot can take a dress through the seasons. Adds a bit of a Fall Vibe to a summery dress. Add tights and a vest and this will work perfectly for winter time as well.

Skirts and Boots for Fall

Skirts are just a more feminine version of pants so of course they work well with boots of any kind. Today I am sharing a fun denim overall skirt with my combat boots. Add a pair of tights and a long sleeve shirt and I am ready for Fall or early spring. Add a tank with no tights and we are late summer ready.

Leggings With Combat Boots

Leggings are just my Fall/winter version of tights so of course they work with Combat Boots as well. Styling a simple black sweater dress and leggings with a fun pair of leopard combat boots add a bit of texture and variety to a monochromatic look.

I may own this dress in a few colours. It creates such a classic silhouette. Plus it is so easy to style and can take you to any occasion. Paired with leggings and combat boots, I am ready for any Fall excursion you can think of.

Casual or Dress Pants with a Fun Boot

Sometimes jeans just don’t seem the appropriate pant, even for casual events. So can a casual or dressy pant work with a boot? Well I like to think it adds a moose casual edginess to an otherwise ” mom” look.

Now that sounds weird a “MOM” look but it sounded better than a matronly or midlife look right? Throwing on a pair of dressier pants with a campi and cardigan can sometimes seem a little dowdy, well add a pair of edgy boots and you transform the look completely.

Pairing a pair of Old Navy Pixie pants with my Amazon Cardigan and a pair of cameo boots is a fun Fall look. Ready for the vineyard or maybe just a shopping trip.
