Dollar Tree DIY Halloween Bird Cage

Stretching for Seniors

Halloween in my world is almost as magical as Christmas, ok hold on I said almost. On a serious note I usually start planning my porch and tables in September. But as a traditionalist, I don’t spook out my house till after Thanksgiving. This year I really wanted a skeleton theme, so the viral DIY Halloween Birdcage was a must.

I already have a skeleton bird in a cage on my table, so I needed something different for the Front Porch. Having my Skellie have a few pet dogs just seemed appropriate. Plus it adds a level of creepiness to the whole picture.

DIY Halloween Bird Cage for a Skellie Animal

After a trip to our local Dollar Tree to take a look at what the Halloween decorations looked like this year, I was able to find most of my supplies for my DIY Halloween Bird Cage . Two medium grey laundry baskets were ideal, plus it meant no painting.

Next up a trip to Dollarama, I knew they carried skeleton animals. Actually I already had a dog, a cat and a bird but they were already in use on my table. I found another skeleton dog and a large black plastic chain.

Fully stocked I was ready to head home and start my crafting.

List of Items for Crafting the Bird Cage

As you probably surmised, the list is pretty straight forward and simple. DIY Halloween Bird Cage takes only three things.

A fun Halloween Craft for less than $10.00. But if you happen to already have skeleton animals you are way ahead of the game price wise. Crazy that our Dollarama is no longer a dollar but still cheaper than most places.

How to Create the DIY Halloween Bird Cage

This honestly is one of the easiest crafts I have ever made. It literally took less than five minutes to put the DIY Halloween Bird Cage all together and I love it. Plus depending on the baskets you use, you may not need paint. That is why I wen gray instead of white. You could also check out the wire waste baskets, they would work well.

I needed something a little larger because I was going for a larger animal in my cage. My goodness that sounds so creepy.

So let’s get crafting shall we;

  1. remove handles from baskets if necessary.
  2. Place animal in a basket ( right side up.)
  3. ensure animal is positioned properly. If you are worried about movement, it can be glued to the bottom of the basket. I did not find that step necessary as my dog fin snuggly
  4. Use the glue gun and glue the entire rim of the basket
  5. Place second basket over the first one and ensure the glue ha sealed the rim. I also used a few zip ties because my basket is going outside.
  6. attach plastic chain to the top of the basket. Originally I was going to hot glue the chain but the links opened so I attached directly to the basket.
  7. Find a cool place to hang the cage and watch the expression on your visitors faces.

Halloween Decor and Crafts

True confession I am always about the Halloween decor but not always a fan of spooky theme. I have run through cutesy decor and whimsical decor but this year I am leaning towards the spooky theme. Inspired by my Potion Mantle and Skeleton decor I think.
