When you have a calm, cool, and collected mind, you are more likely to make decisions with a clear head. This allows you to make better decisions and think more clearly.

This superpower can be developed through practice. Over time, you will find yourself becoming calmer and calmer, and you will notice that your stress level drops significantly.

Exploring Calmness as to What It Is

Calmness is one of the most powerful tools you can master. It is the ability to stay calm under pressure, especially when things aren’t going as expected.

Calmness is often used by salespeople, negotiators, and people in authority, as well as athletes and actors. Let’s take a look at what calmness also is:

  • Calmness is the ability to be able to control yourself and your emotions in stressful situations. It’s about being able to control yourself instead of letting your emotions control you.
  • Calmness is about controlling your thoughts and feelings and taking a step back from your emotions. When you’re calm, you can think clearly and logically.
  • Calmness is about having the self-discipline to stop trying to fix your problems and instead focus on solving them.
  • Calmness is about having the self-control to be able to keep yourself from doing something irresponsible when you’re angry or frustrated.
  • Calmness is about being able to take a step back and focus on what’s important.

How to Develop Calmness into a Superpower

There are many benefits to having calmness in your life. Calmness is good for your health, your relationships, and your happiness. Mindfulness allows one to take pause and truly respond to what matters.

In fact, being calm is indeed a superpower.

So, how do you develop calmness?

Here are a few tips that can help you not to overreact or take things personally:

  • First & foremost learn the art of ‘breathing’.
  • Take time to reflect on what makes you happy.
  • Think about what you’d like to change about yourself.
  • Take time to meditate.
  • Find something that calms you down.

Learn the Art of ‘Breathing’

When was the last time you took a deep breath? By learning to do so, it will help you to stay calm and develop the ability to not overreact in life’s drama.

Deep breathing is also a great way to relax and it’s been proven to improve mental performance.

A lot of people think that they know how to breathe, but they don’t. They don’t realize that they’re not breathing. And, they’re missing out on a huge benefit.

  • The key to breathing deeply is to start with your diaphragm in your abdomen, which is the muscle that is located below your chest. Take note of the following steps involved:
  • When you breathe in, you start by drawing your diaphragm down into your body. As your diaphragm moves down, you expand your rib cage.
  • As your ribcage expands, your lungs expand. And, as your lungs expand, you inhale.
  • When you exhale, your diaphragm comes back up, your ribs contract, and your lungs shrink.
  • As your lungs shrink, you exhale.

By breathing in this way, you’re going to improve your overall health and your ability to calm down.

Reflection

Take time to reflect on what makes you happy.

In order to become calmer, it’s important to step back and reflect on your current state.

If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or worried, you need to reflect on this. Think about how you’re feeling and what you’re going through.

Ask yourself if you’re being too stressed out. Are you spending too much time on social media? Is it causing you to feel overwhelmed?

Is there something you’re worried about?

If you’re feeling angry, think about what you’re feeling. Is it justified? Is it healthy?

You can also reflect on your own life.

How would you describe your life? What are you passionate about? What makes you happy?

Are you working on your strengths?

Are you living in alignment with your values?

Think about the last time you felt completely calm.

What was happening?

Did you know you were feeling calm?

Was it a moment you remember clearly?

What did you do? How did you feel? What made you calm? How could you do this again?

Reflection is about careful thought. I end this with this quote:

“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection, will come even more effective action.”

Peter Drucker

Think About What You Would Like to Change

We all have things we’d like to change. Sometimes, those things are small and easy to fix, and other times, they’re huge and need a whole overhaul.

Calmness is a great superpower that allows you to take action toward changing whatever you’re unhappy about.

When you’re calm, you’re less stressed, more productive, and more focused. It’s a much more effective way of living than being stressed and overwhelmed.

So, think about what you would like to change, and then figure out how to make it happen.

Take Time to Meditate and/or Pray

It’s hard to find peace when you’re stressed. But you can find peace when you’re calm.

The most important thing you can do to be calmer is to spend time meditating or praying.

Meditation is an important part of any self-development plan. It is an effective way to reduce stress, relieve anxiety, improve focus and align your soul to your mind.

Most meditation methods are based on relaxation techniques, but some focus on self-awareness.

Perhaps you’re one who prefers to rely on the power of ‘prayer’ and take time to calmly reconnect to your soul. To me, this is the ultimate action to do and provides an incredible feeling of peace and the magical quality of tranquality.

When you pray, you’re connecting with your Creator. You’re acknowledging that you’re not in control and that you need help and guidance.

Whatever you’re looking for, meditation and/or prayer will benefit you and bring your heart at peace.

Find Something That Calms You Down

Have you ever heard of a ‘touch stone’ or ‘worry stone”? These are often used when treating people with anxiety. Relieving anxiety in itself allows one to become regrounded and calmer.  It helps you to remind you how to navigate life’s storms and develop the ability to not overreact.

They’re wonderful when you’re feeling stressed, soothing to the touch, and an excellent addition to your self-care routine.

Touching something that soothes you also will, in turn, bring peace and calmness to you.  It allows you to pause and choose peace instead of panic.

How to Begin the Use the Power of Calmness in Everyday Life

The ability to manage your emotions and remain calm under pressure has a direct link to your performance. Superstars have well-honed coping strategies that help them cope with stressful situations.

Per a Yale study, our brains are wired such that it’s difficult to take action until we feel at least some level of this emotional state. In fact, performance peaks under the heightened activation that comes with moderate levels of stress. As long as the stress isn’t prolonged, it’s harmless.

Calmness is a superpower that everyone should have. When you have a calm, cool, and collected mind, you are more likely to make decisions with a clear head.

It can be used to improve your relationships. When you’re calm, you’re able to see things from other people’s perspectives. This leads to better communication, which in turn leads to more successful relationships.

It can also help you improve your own life. When you’re calm, you’re able to see things objectively. This gives you a chance to evaluate your life and see what you could do differently.

When you develop yourself to switch from chaos to calmness, it allows you to re-evaluate everyday situations, and instead of ‘reacting’, you have learned to ‘respond’ with peace and resolution.
